In the 2018/19 season Mad River Mountain Ski Patrol added our first Mountain Hosts and based upon our initial success, we intend to continue and expand that program.
Mountain hosts have become a vital addition to ski area staff in the NSP and are common at resorts across America. These individuals interact with guests to promote safety and provide customer service.
If you are interested in serving people who engage in outdoor recreation, but not interested in becoming a patroller, or perhaps you can not yet commit the needed time, you can consider joining a mountain or bike host unit. Hosts serve in a variety of roles, but are trained as first responders through the Outdoor First Care (OFC) course. This required first aid course includes content knowledge and hands-on skills training. OFC only costs $25.00 and provides a two-year certification upon completion. Subsequent renewals of OFC may be completed at no additional charge. The NSP annual membership dues is $50 for Mountain Hosts.
